Signal FFS™ is a Windows®-based software product for performing fitness-for-service assessments and fracture mechanics analyses on fixed and rotating equipment. Compliant with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 2007 and BS 7910, Signal FFS™ helps users to maximize the reliable service lifetime of critical assets in heavy industry.
Signal FFS™ Benefits
Offering compelling value in a variety of forms, Signal FFS™ is:
Authoritative
Dr. Ted Anderson has led the development of Signal FFS™, backed by the expertise, knowledge and technology of Quest Reliability in mechanical integrity management. Dr. Anderson is an internationally recognized expert on structural integrity and fitness-for-service, one of the principal authors of the API 579 fitness-for-service document, and the author of the best selling engineering textbook on fracture mechanics.
Comprehensive
Signal FFS™ implements the 2007 edition of the fitness-for-service standard API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 and performs crack assessments in accordance with the latest version of the British Standards, BS 7910, procedure.
Flexible
Signal FFS™ allows the user to perform both Level 1 and 2 assessments on the full spectrum of flaw types – across a broad array of pressure vessels and piping types – to cover critical energy infrastructure in process, pipeline and power generation. An advanced fracture mechanics module also includes some Level 3 capabilities, such as Monte Carlo probabilistic analysis and variable-amplitude fatigue assessment.
Intuitive
Unlike typical engineering software, Signal FFS™ has an intuitive graphical interface that guides the user step-by-step through an analysis. The learning curve on Signal FFS™ is substantially shorter than on competing products, enabling the user to apply quickly, effectively and practically the most current fitness-for-service standards.
Supportive
Signal FFS™ support is available in many forms to accommodate the user’s preference, including telephonic and e-mail access to experts within Quest Reliability, on-line tutorials, examples and answers to FAQs. Quest Reliability is also available to provide formal instructor-led training at a Quest Reliability office or customer’s site.

Features
Signal FFS™ Supercedes both FractureGraphic and PetroFit, and is backwards compatible to these products. The standard program addresses the most commonly used parts of API 579-1; the creep and fracture mechanics modules address more advanced fitness-for-service assessments.
| Standard Program |
Advanced Modules |
Brittle Fracture (API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, Part 3),
General Metal Loss (API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, Part 4)
Local Metal Loss (API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, Part 5)
Pitting Corrosion (API 579-1/ASME FFS-1, Part 6)

Creep Module
- Creep damage and remaining life prediction in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 (Part 10)
- Creep crack growth analysis (requires Fracture Mechanics Module)
Fracture Mechanics Module
- Level 2 assessment of crack-like flaws in accordance with API 579-1/ASME FFS-1 (Part 9). This assessment is based on the failure assessment diagram (FAD) approach
- Fatigue and environmental crack growth analysis
- Constant amplitude and variable amplitude fatigue options.
- Integration with the FAD method for life prediction.
- Extensive database of material constants for fatigue crack growth.
- Crack assessment in accordance with BS 7910, which is also based on the FAD method
- Monte Carlo probabilistic fracture mechanics analysis
- Parametric capability for sensitivity analysis or for evaluating multiple cases in batch mode
- Extensive library of stress intensity and reference stress solutions
- Weight function method for computing stress intensity factors for cracks subject to non-uniform stress fields.
